How the two technologies work

HID (High-Intensity Discharge), also called xenon, creates light by arcing electricity through xenon gas inside a sealed bulb. It needs a ballast to strike and regulate that arc. HID produces a lot of light and a distinctive crisp white (sometimes slightly blue) beam.
